Description: JVBL provides a wide range of free public library srevices including: loan of materials in various formats, public access computers and free Internet access. The library has an extensive consumer health collection and offers access to Medline and other online databases on consumer and business issues. The Youth Services Department offers ongoing programs to enhance early childhood educational development including Parent/Child Workshops, early literacy enhanced story times, as well as programs for school aged children and teens. The library has an extensive collection of parenting materials in print and video format, is an Adoption Resource Information Center, has an Adoption, Autism, Apraxia, and Grandparents who parent their Grandchildren support and information groups as well as operating the local Literacy programs including Family Literacy.

Program: Independent Living Program (not an emergency shelter)
Description: Independent living residence for young women ages 14 to 22 during their pregnancy and for a short period post-partum. Residents are educated in parenting, parent/child bonding, budgeting, reaching educational goals, life-skills training as needed for each resident, referrals to appropriate medical care, referrals to local assistance agencies, referrals to local subsidized housing programs for discharge. Admission is on a voluntary basis, however you must have parent or legal guardian signature if age 17 or under. Admission is based on availability and sucessful intake interview criteria.

Program: assistance to first time mothers
Description: Helping first-time, low-income mothers providing pregnancy and parenting information, support and mentorship. Visits are in your home, or at a convenient location, by the same nurse. Visit times are muturally agreed upon and take place, generally, every-other week until the bby is two years old. You can enroll as early in your pregnancy as you wish, but no alter than 28 weeks pregnant. Information about the birth of the baby, development of the baby as well as information and support to mom so that she can continue with her life goals is shared.
